feat(aura-core): typed construction-arg seam on PrimitiveBuilder
A second, closed construction channel beside the scalar bind seam (refs #271): ArgKind (Tz / TimeOfDay / Count — deliberately NOT ScalarKind, which stays invariant 4's streamed set), ArgSpec, ArgValue, ConstructionArg (verbatim strict-form strings, the id-bearing twin of BoundParam), ArgOpError, and an ArgsState on PrimitiveBuilder: pending(name, doc, specs, make) declares an arg-bearing recipe that is introspectable but not constructible; try_args validates strictly (exact IANA name, zero-padded HH:MM, plain positive decimal — the accepted form IS the canonical form, no normalization layer), then runs make and returns the configured builder. build() on a pending builder panics — the bind panic-contract twin; the data path always goes through try_args. chrono-tz enters aura-core for the typed Tz value (already a workspace dependency of four crates; typed values at the seam beat a validated-string re-parse split across two coupled sites). One test per ArgOpError variant plus strict-form refusal pins. |

feat(aura-engine): Op::Use splices a registered blueprint; open patterns build
The construction session gains the use op: Op::Use { ref_id, name, bind }
resolves through a second injected closure (subgraph: &dyn Fn(&str) ->
Option<Composite>, mirroring vocab's closed-lookup posture — the engine never
touches the store) and pushes the fetched composite as BlueprintNode::Composite,
renamed to the instance identifier (names are identity-blind debug symbols),
with path-qualified binds applied at splice time. Port resolution, kind checks,
the eager cycle gate, and the holistic finish gates all walk the existing
Composite arm — the session storage already carried it; the
"sessions only ever add primitives" unreachable! is retired by construction.
Open patterns (ratified mid-cycle, #317 comment 4627): finish() drops the
root-role gate; compile/bootstrap keep it. An op-script's explicit input roles
are a pattern's formal parameters — buildable, registerable, splicable; running
one standalone still refuses at bootstrap. The pinned finish-refusal test flips
to assert the new split (finish OK, compile refuses). No shipped fixture used
the input op; no corpus behaviour moves.
Gang integrity at the use seam (review finding): binding a ganged member's raw
path refused via the new BindOpError::AlreadyGanged { param, gang } (aura-core)
instead of silently de-fusing the gang — membership keyed on the same
(node, original_pos) coordinate collect_params/check_gangs use, per nesting
level. The gang's public knob stays unbindable at the seam (recorded residue).
Correctness oracle: use_op_splices_byte_identical_to_the_rust_built_twin pins
blueprint_to_json byte-equality against the GraphBuilder twin AND a
bit-identical recorded run (C1). Seven further use_op_* tests cover the fault
surfaces; open_input_pattern_finishes_registers_shaped_and_splices covers the
open-pattern round trip build -> serialize -> reload -> splice -> run.
No blueprint-format change: the serialized form already nests composites
recursively; the golden byte pin stays untouched.

feat(core): doc_gate refuses the namespaced short-name alibi (GREEN)
The fieldtest's spec_gap closed per the #316 decision (tighten, not ratify): doc_gate normalizes the doc against both the full entry name and its bare display segment after the last :: -- an extension node ns::Scale with doc "Scale" now refuses (RestatesName), matching the register seam's effective bare-name behaviour. Unnamespaced entries are unchanged (the checks coincide); genuine meaning lines containing the name as a substring stay accepted (equality, not containment). The C29 contract sentence carries the precision. Gates: workspace green (98 suites, 0 failed -- incl. the C29 coverage walk over every shipped doc under the tightened gate), clippy clean. refs #316 |

test(core): RED -- doc_gate refuses the namespaced short-name alibi
Executable spec for the fieldtest spec_gap (decision on #316: tighten, not ratify): doc_gate("lab316_nodes::Scale", "Scale") must be Err(RestatesName) -- a doc normalizing to the final ::-segment of a namespaced entry name restates the name. Unnamespaced entries and genuine meaning lines containing the name stay Ok (guard assertions green). Currently red: the shipped check compares the full name only. refs #316 |

feat(core): doc_gate shape check + required NodeSchema.doc field
C29 compile/unit seam, core carrier (iteration 1 of the self-description
spec): DocGateFault { Empty, RestatesName } + doc_gate() — deterministic
string-shape check, never content judgement — and NodeSchema gains the
required pub doc: &'static str, so every construction site must declare
a meaning line (compiler-enumerated). Core's own 10 test literals thread
doc: "test-only schema"; doc_gate/DocGateFault re-exported at crate root.
Downstream crates are E0063-broken by design until their sites thread
the field (tasks 3-7 of the plan); gates here are crate-scoped:
cargo test -p aura-core (59 green) + clippy -p aura-core (clean).
Interim subset commit of the implement run after adjudicating a
cross-task discard: task 2's file checkout had destroyed task 1's
node.rs/lib.rs work; restored from the loop's recovery snapshot
53c55c3 and merged with task 2's field threading.

feat(aura-core, aura-engine): Node::initialize — the start-of-stream mirror of finalize
Adds the second lifecycle hook the #283 design revision pairs with finalize: Node::initialize (default no-op) runs once per node, in topological order, before the first source value — inside the deterministic sequence, no within-sim concurrency (C1). Consumers acquire run resources there (the record consumer opens its streaming writer); the hook is infallible by signature, so an acquiring node stores its error, degrades to inert, and surfaces the failure once, terminally, at finalize. Every existing node keeps the default. Pinned by the mirror test run_initializes_every_node_once_before_the_stream (init0,init1 strictly before any eval, exactly once), the shape of the existing finalize test. RED was observed by temporarily reverting the flush (test fails with evals-before-inits), then re-applied. Ledger note for cycle close: C8's lifecycle section gains initialize as finalize's mirror. refs #283 |

audit: cycle-close tidy for the measurement milestone (#280/#281/#282)
Architect drift review over 16ca4e1..HEAD: drift-clean but for one low citation slip, now fixed here — snap_to_nearest_minute's doc cited the record-then-replay boundary as C6 (firing policy); it is C11. What holds (architect-confirmed): C27 taps match the contract (pure declaration, compile-resolve+hoist through the shared lowering remap, caller-built aura-core-only sink, unbound-is-inert, Tier-1 additive serde); the four #281 cells are C8/C6-clean (<=1 record/eval, warm-up None, When's quiet-None is the Resample precedent, barrier stall correct); #280's snap respects C11 (node-local reads only, firing/barrier timestamps untouched, stream verbatim); FlatGraph and validate_wiring lockstep complete. Regression (report-only bench): exit 0, all five surfaces fingerprint OK, deltas within noise on a loaded box — no baseline update, nothing to ratify. Scaling follow-up filed as #283: the single-run tap drain buffers O(cycles) rows (the #138 profile) — fine for the bounded acceptance run, to be folded before a full-history declared-tap study. |

fix(std): snap time-bucket/session reads to the nominal minute
Provider M1 stamps carry sub-second jitter around minute boundaries (~55% of days stamp the 09:00 Berlin bar at 08:59:59.xxx), so any consumer dividing or truncating the raw stamp mis-buckets boundary bars: Resample and VolTfStop fold the bar into the previous bucket instead of rolling over, Session demotes the first in-session bar to at-open. Fix per the decision logged on the issue: one shared Timestamp::snap_to_nearest_minute in aura-core (round-half-up, rem_euclid so negative epochs snap correctly), applied consumer-side at the three membership computations. The recorded stream stays byte-verbatim — no ingestion rewrite, record-then-replay untouched; an ingestion-time rewrite was rejected because it would hide the raw time axis from every consumer and could reorder the k-way merge around boundaries. Verified: the three formerly-RED tests pass individually; full workspace suite green; clippy clean. closes #280 |

feat(core,engine): bound params become data-merged defaults; Composite::reopen
Task 1-2 of the bound-override cycle: PrimitiveBuilder::bind/try_bind stop capturing the bound value in a wrapped build closure and store it only as BoundParam data; build() merges bound values back into the full-arity vector at call time (ascending original position — behaviour-identical to the retired closure chain). This makes the reversal possible: unbind(slot) returns the param to the declared surface at its original order. aura-engine gains the path-addressed Composite::reopen (mirroring collect_params' prefix rules, lockstep with expansion_map) plus the read-only bound_param_space() enumeration (path-qualified BoundSpec with values) and the ReopenError/BoundSpec exports. An e2e proves a reopened param rebuilds from the freshly supplied value through compile_with_params, not the stale default. refs #246 |

feat(engine): gang data model + validation gate (#61 task 1)
One public knob fanning into >=2 sibling params: Gang/GangMember types
(the Role name/targets split + BoundParam pos/name dual), Composite.gangs
behind the single fallible Composite::with_gangs gate, check_gangs as the
shared $A predicate (all three future minting boundaries route here), and
CompileError::BadGang(GangFault) as the typed refusal.
PrimitiveBuilder::original_pos (aura-core) extracts bind's pos-reconstruction
loop verbatim so gang members and BoundParam share one coordinate space.
Deviation ratified vs the plan: GangFault::KindMismatch carries structural
{node, name} coordinates instead of a stringly member label, consistent with
the sibling arms (plan amended). A redundant test-local fixture wrapper was
dropped after a fresh quality re-review of the blocked task diff.
Verified: cargo test -p aura-engine --lib 249/0, -p aura-core 53/0, clippy
-D warnings clean on both crates.

feat(project): the project-as-crate load boundary (cycle 0102)
A research project is now a loadable external cdylib crate. Inside a directory whose ancestry holds an Aura.toml, aura discovers the project root cargo-style, locates the compiled dylib via cargo metadata (debug default, --release opt-in), loads it load-and-hold, and refuses mismatches before trusting anything: the AURA_PROJECT descriptor (aura-core::project, #[repr(C)]) carries a C-ABI stamp prefix (rustc + aura-core version, baked per consuming build by the new aura-core build.rs) validated before any Rust-ABI field is read. The vocabulary charter gates the merged resolution: project type ids are ::-namespaced (std stays bare), duplicates refuse, and the enumerable type-id list must agree with the resolver, so introspection can never silently omit a project type. All blueprint verbs resolve through the merged project + std vocabulary via a per-invocation Env threaded through the dispatch chains; registry, trace-store, and data paths anchor at the project runs root (Aura.toml [paths], paths-only by design — instrument geometry stays the recorded sidecar, C15). RunManifest gains the Tier-1 project provenance field (namespace + dylib sha256 + best-effort commit), stamped beside topology_hash on the blueprint-run paths; pre-0102 registry lines load unchanged. Default node names strip the namespace, so :: never reaches the param-path address space. Proven by the demo-project fixture (built by the e2e via cargo, path-dep on this workspace): run twice bit-identical, provenance recorded, introspection lists demo::* beside std, registry anchors at the discovered root from a subdirectory; the badcharter fixture proves the charter refusal through the real libloading path; a never-built project refuses with a cargo-build hint. Outside a project every path collapses to the previous literals — goldens and manifest pins byte-identical. Verification: cargo build --workspace clean; cargo test --workspace 862 passed / 0 failed (incl. 7 project_load e2e); clippy -D warnings clean (one precedent-matching allow(too_many_arguments) on run_oos_blueprint, whose arity the Env threading raised to 8); doc build unchanged. Docs/ledger aligned: Aura.toml field lists are paths-only in project-layout.md, glossary, C16/C17; new C13 realization note records the per-invocation-reload reading and the load-and-hold one-shot scope boundary. New deps, per-case review (aura-cli leaf binary only, never the frozen artifact): libloading, toml. refs #180 |

feat(0088): §A shared gate predicates — edge_kind_check, resolution helpers, try_bind
Iteration-1 §A of the construction service (#157): the surface-agnostic shared predicates the eager op-script path and the holistic finalize gates both call — no second validator (C24). - edge_kind_check (blueprint.rs): the per-edge producer/consumer kind check, lifted verbatim out of validate_wiring's edge loop into a pub(crate) fn that validate_wiring now calls — behaviour-preserving (same Bootstrap(KindMismatch) variant; the existing compile-time gate test stays green). - resolve_input_slot / resolve_output_field (builder.rs): the exactly-one-match name→index resolution extracted as pub(crate) fns over (&NodeSchema, &str), so the runtime-String op-script names share GraphBuilder's resolution; GraphBuilder delegates and maps to the unchanged BuildError variants. - try_bind + BindOpError (aura-core node.rs): the fallible Result twin of bind (bind keeps its panic contract and pinned messages verbatim; try_bind is a separate method reporting the same three conditions as values). - check_param_namespace_injective + validate_wiring widened to pub(crate) for the finalize-stage reuse by the upcoming GraphSession::finish (§B). Partial iteration: §B (the GraphSession/Op/replay surface + introspection) and the §A→§B integration land next (plan Tasks 4-8). compile_with_params / check_ports_connected are behaviourally unchanged. Full suite green; clippy clean. Plan correction folded in: Task 3's test originally referenced aura_std::Sma — infeasible inside aura-core (aura-std depends on aura-core; the reverse edge is a dependency cycle). Adapted to a local PrimitiveBuilder probe with identical assertions. refs #157 |

feat(0087): blueprint serialization & loader — close the graph-as-data loop
C24 first cut (#155): a blueprint — the param-generic, named graph-as-data a Rust builder produces — is now a first-class serializable data value with a canonical, versioned format, and the engine has the missing load path (data -> blueprint -> FlatGraph), not only the Rust-builder construction path. What ships: - `blueprint_to_json` / `blueprint_from_json` in a new `aura-engine` blueprint_serde module: a faithful serde DTO projection (the build closures dropped; re-derived on load), top-level `format_version` envelope, canonical compact JSON (struct field order, defaults omitted via skip_serializing_if). - A resolver seam: the loader is generic over an injected `Fn(&str) -> Option<PrimitiveBuilder>`; the concrete closed `match` over the aura-std vocabulary lives in aura-std (`std_vocabulary`), never in the engine (the engine stays domain-free: lib deps aura-core + aura-analysis only, never the node-vocabulary crate). This is C24's compiled-in closed-set referenced by type identity, NOT a dynamic/marketplace node registry (domain invariant 9). - serde derives on the serialized plain types (Edge, Target, OutField, Role, BoundParam, ScalarKind); BoundParam additionally re-exported from aura-core's root (an additive fix the plan's file list missed). Load-bearing scope decisions (derived, logged on #155): - Sinks are excluded from the serialized blueprint — a recording sink captures an mpsc::Sender (runtime identity, not param/topology, C19 value-empty); sink addressing is the C18-registry / #101 concern. The round-trip test attaches identical sinks post-load to both twins. - Construction-arg builders (LinComb(arity), CostSum(n), SimBroker(pip), Session(..)) are out of the round-trippable set: their structural args are a C20 structural-axis concern the param-generic format does not yet encode; an absent type_id fails the load cleanly (UnknownNodeType), never a silent wrong graph. #155's vocabulary is the 22 zero-arg aura-std builders. Additively extensible later (#156). Orchestrator hardening on review: the serializer now emits bound params in ascending original-slot order (mirroring the loader), so the canonical form is bind-order-independent — a precondition for content-addressing (#158). Identity today (every #155 node has <=1 param); holds by construction for future multi-param nodes. Acceptance (all green): a serialized blueprint runs bit-identical (C1) to its Rust-built twin; serializer/loader are inverse (canonical idempotence, incl. a recursive nested composite); unknown-type and unsupported-version fail named, never panicking. cargo test --workspace 748 passed; clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean. closes #155 |

feat(0070): streaming sink reductions — finalize hook + folding sinks (#138)
M3 machinery for BLOCKER #138: sink reductions can now fold online instead of buffering every per-cycle row to an unbounded channel. - aura-core: additive `Node::finalize` end-of-stream hook (default no-op) + `SeriesFold` online accumulator (last / max_drawdown / sign_flips). - aura-engine: `Harness::run` calls `finalize` once per node in topo order after the source loop; `summarize` refactored to drive `SeriesFold` (byte-identical), the now-dead `sign0` removed. - aura-std: `GatedRecorder` (emits only gated rows + the final row on finalize) and `SeriesReducer` (folds one f64 series, emits one summary row on finalize), both emitting the `Recorder` channel type — no aura-engine dependency. - Integration tests: folded reductions are byte-for-byte equal to the raw-recorder path; the R-reduction's peak memory is O(trades), independent of cycle count. Ratified two off-plan fixes the implementer made in the tests (both plan defects, not code defects): the GatedRecorder correctly flushes the final non-gated row on finalize, so the retained count is K_TRADES + 1; and the heterogeneous PM record needs kind-correct zero scalars (a blanket f64 zero is rejected by the kind-typed AnyColumn::push). Wiring these reducers into the stage1-r sweep (the actual O(cycles)->O(trades) win) follows next. refs #138 |

docs(cell): name Scalar as the param-authoring surface; no tagged Cell ctors by design
Cell is the kind-erased hot-path carrier (C7): the value carries no tag, so there are deliberately no tuple-style/tagged constructors (`Cell::I64(..)`). Document on the struct that Scalar is the value to reach for when authoring a param / bind / sweep point / RunManifest field, and that the from_* ctors are the carrier-side entry. Resolves the discoverability papercut without softening the carrier split. closes #100 |

refactor(aura-core): Scalar as a native tagged enum, disjoint from Cell; typed RunManifest.params
Scalar was `struct { kind: ScalarKind, cell: Cell }` — "a Cell wearing a kind hat." The recorded reason for that shape was migration ease, which is not a design rationale (CLAUDE.md: rationale != effort), so the struct had no substantive defense. Redefine it as the native tagged union it conceptually is:
enum Scalar { I64(i64), F64(f64), Bool(bool), Timestamp(Timestamp) }
This is substantively better on four axes: kind/bits skew becomes unrepresentable (illegal states gone); accessors panic loudly on the wrong variant instead of a release-mode silent bit reinterpret; PartialEq derives the documented IEEE-754 / cross-kind value semantics (the hand-roll, needed only because the struct inherited Cell's bitwise compare, is gone); and serde is a plain derive emitting the externally-tagged wire form ({"I64":10}/{"F64":2.5}) — the private ScalarRepr shadow enum that motivated this was never needed. It is also C7-honest: erased-on-the-hot-path (Cell) and self-describing-at-the-edge (Scalar) are two disjoint types bridged by explicit conversion.
The whole public API is preserved (Scalar's fields were private), so call sites do not churn: the enum change is contained to scalar.rs, where cell() now encodes and from_cell() decodes per kind. Cell and ScalarKind are untouched.
With Scalar serializable, lift RunManifest.params from Vec<(String, f64)> to Vec<(String, Scalar)>: the param's kind (an i64 length vs an f64 scale) now survives into the C18 record (runs.jsonl) and the CLI JSON instead of collapsing to f64. scalar_as_param_f64 is deleted; sim_optimal_manifest passes typed params through. This is a deliberate wire-shape change — params now render as tagged scalars; the JSON-asserting tests are updated to the new shape on purpose.
Hand-authored manifest params across the CLI's single-run/mc/macd sites use honest kinds (lengths -> i64, scales -> f64) so they match the sweep path (which already derives correct kinds via zip_params); their in-binary JSON assertions are re-tagged accordingly.
Walk-forward fork resolves with no code change: WindowRun.chosen_params stays Vec<Scalar> (the serializable record carrier), reduced to f64 only at the param_stability statistic boundary (scalar_as_f64 retained). Glossary 'cell' entry updated to describe Scalar as the disjoint tagged union, not 'a cell plus its kind tag'.
Gates: build --all-targets, test --workspace (incl. new scalar_serde_round_trips), clippy -D warnings, doc --no-deps — all clean.

refactor(aura-engine): Cell into the construction path — param-plane base/frontend split
Cell becomes the carrier of the construction path; Scalar narrows to the author/render boundaries. The validated/enumerated param point carries no redundant kind (it lives once, in the declared param-space); at the author edge the kind is a checksum — two independent sources, the typed value vs. the slot — so the self-describing Scalar stays there. The name->slot binding is dynamic (C23), so the check is necessarily a runtime one and the value must self-describe for it. Base/frontend split (the AnyColumn push/push_cell pattern one level up): compile_with_cells / bootstrap_with_cells are the kind-check-free base; compile_with_params / bootstrap_with_params are the frontend that adds only the per-value kind checksum, strips to cells (new Scalar::cell(), the partner of Scalar::from_cell), and delegates. lower_items loses its per-primitive kind-check; PrimitiveBuilder::build and the std node builders (sma/ema/exposure/lincomb) read cells. Boundary: construction -> Cell (PrimitiveBuilder::build, lower_items, GridSpace.axes/points, SweepPoint.params, the sweep closure). Author edges stay Scalar (GridSpace::new, bind, compile_with_params/bootstrap_with_params). walkforward chosen_params stays a self-describing Scalar report record (Option A — WalkForwardResult carries no space); the cell winner is reconstructed once at the WindowRun site via from_cell. injective-check moved ahead of the arity-check in the frontend to preserve the pre-split error order (DuplicateParamPath before ParamArity). The lossy i64->f64 param projection (scalar_as_f64 / scalar_as_param_f64) is deliberately untouched — a separate follow-up. Behaviour-preserving (C1): build --all-targets / test / clippy -D warnings / doc all clean across the workspace. |

refactor(aura-core): split Scalar into a tag-free Cell + ScalarKind
Motivation
----------
`Scalar` was a tagged enum (I64/F64/Bool/Ts), so every scalar value
physically carried its own kind tag. But the kind is already known from
the schema/port/column the value flows through (C7: the type is a
property of the column, not of the value — the hot path is already
columnar `Column<T>`, and `AnyColumn::get` *reconstructs* the tag from
the column on the way out). The per-value tag was therefore redundant
with the kind the surrounding context already holds.
That redundancy had three costs:
* It baked an implicit `match` (a branch) into every function that read
a Scalar payload — even where the caller statically knew the type.
The tag could never be exploited away.
* Size: a tagged enum is tag + payload = 16 bytes (f64/i64 alignment),
twice the 8 bytes the value needs. A `Column<Scalar>` would be double
the memory and half the cache utilisation.
* It is the shared root of several downstream papercuts we keep hitting
— the lossy f64 manifest field, the `unreachable!` panic on a
non-numeric param, the serde-tag question — all symptoms of "the type
is baked into the value".
Change
------
Introduce `Cell`: a type-erased 64-bit word (`struct Cell(u64)`) that is
not readable without external type context. It is constructed per base
type (`from_i64/from_f64/from_bool/from_ts`) and read only by naming the
type at the call site (`i64()/f64()/bool()/ts()`) — each a branch-free
bit-cast. The hot path resolves the kind once at the boundary (from the
schema) and then reads natively, with no per-value branch. `Cell` knows
nothing of `Scalar` or `ScalarKind`; the dependency is strictly one-way,
and it lives in its own `cell.rs` (more is planned on top of it).
`Scalar` becomes `struct { kind: ScalarKind, cell: Cell }` — the
self-describing form for the dynamic boundaries (builder binding,
serialization, rendering), built on top of `Cell`. Its `as_*` accessors
now `debug_assert` the kind and return the native value (free in
release); calling the wrong accessor is a caller bug, not a checked
`Option`. The variant constructors `Scalar::I64(..)` become associated
fns `Scalar::i64(..)`.
`PartialEq` is hand-written (not derived) to preserve the former enum's
value semantics: kinds must match, then native payloads compare, so f64
keeps IEEE-754 behaviour (`NaN != NaN`, `+0.0 == -0.0`) and a kind
mismatch is never equal even when the raw words coincide. A fixture
(`scalar_eq_is_value_not_bitwise`) pins exactly the cases where bit- and
value-equality diverge, so it can't silently regress. `Cell`'s own
`Eq`/`Hash` stay bitwise — correct for a raw word.
The change is behaviour-preserving: Scalar's observable behaviour is
identical to the pre-Cell enum (the value-equality fixture proves it);
only the internal representation changed. The ~440 call sites across the
workspace are a mechanical constructor rename plus ~12 destructuring
sites (match-arms / `let`-patterns) rewritten to `kind()` + `as_*`.
Verified: cargo build --workspace --all-targets, cargo clippy --workspace
--all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo test --workspace — all green.

feat(aura-engine): sweep named-binding — zip_params + SweepFamily.named_params (C12 #57)
Thread a derived named view of a sweep point so consumers stop hand-zipping param_space() names onto the bare &[Scalar]. The free function zip_params(space, point) -> Vec<(String, Scalar)> in aura-core is the one shared projection; GridSpace retains the ParamSpec list it already receives in new() (it was validated then discarded); SweepFamily carries it (stamped once in sweep_with_threads) and exposes named_params(i). The three CLI hand-zip sites collapse to one zip_params call each. The run-closure signature `Fn(&[Scalar]) -> RunReport` is byte-unchanged — the named view is a derived projection (C23: slot is identity, name is derived), not a closure-currency change — so #52's RandomSpace plugs into the same sweep() execution layer with zero signature reconciliation (#71 firewall held). sim_optimal_manifest now takes typed Vec<(String, Scalar)> and does the lossy f64 collapse internally (one place; the manifest's f64-precursor field owns its own lossiness — the typed-manifest upgrade stays the deferred typed-param-space item, a non-goal here). All eight call sites migrated: three sweep closures pass zip_params, five hand-listing callers (run_sample, run_sample_real, mc_family, run_macd, run_sample_seeded) pass Scalar::F64 literals. Behaviour-preserving: the collapse output is identical to the old per-site zip, so aura sweep / walkforward / run output is byte-identical; SweepFamily.space threaded into the aura-registry optimize test literal. Verified by the orchestrator: cargo test --workspace green (4 new tests: zip_params x2, sweep_family_carries_param_space, family_named_params_round_trips), cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -D warnings clean. (rust-analyzer emitted stale mid-edit diagnostics; the real cargo build/test is clean.) refs #57 |

audit: cycle 0041 — drift-clean (Source ingestion seam)
Architect drift review over 8b330e3..HEAD (the Source-seam cycle #71 plus the interim #67 optimize work and refactors). No semantic or contract drift: the seam faithfully preserves C3 (ms→epoch-ns at the one ingestion boundary), C4 (tie-by-source-index, byte-for-byte), and C7 (field-per-source SoA); the full suite is byte-identical green and the gated streaming tests pass on real data. Regression gate: `cargo test --workspace` green (the project declares no dedicated regression script; the suite is the gate). Tidied stale prose the cycle left behind (no behaviour change): - docs/design/INDEX.md (C12): replaced the cycle-0011 "deliberate eager gap" status note with a cycle-0041 realization note — the producer `Source` seam + streaming `M1FieldSource` now deliver per-source O(one-chunk) streaming; precisely scopes what remains open (cross-*sim* Arc<[T]> window sharing, still unbuilt until the orchestration families #66/#68/#69 consume it). - aura-core/src/lib.rs: dropped the now-shipped "Source trait + data-server ingestion" from the module doc's "still to come" list (aura-engine's twin line was fixed in the cycle; aura-core's was missed). - aura-ingest/src/lib.rs: module header now documents both coexisting paths (eager load_m1_window/M1Columns vs lazy streaming M1FieldSource). - aura-registry/src/lib.rs: rank_by/optimize doc comments linked to the private `metric_cmp` (a public→private intra-doc-link warning from the #67 commit); demoted to plain code spans, so `cargo doc --workspace` is now warning-clean. |

refactor(aura-core): own FieldSpec.name to drop the derive_signature heap leak
FieldSpec.name was &'static str, forcing derive_signature to Box::leak every re-exported composite OutField name. Because compile_with_params reruns derive_signature per sweep point, an N-point sweep over an M-output-field composite leaked N×M boundary names unbounded — a scaling wall the moment the World/sweep layer compiles families per point. Pull FieldSpec.name to String, mirroring the already-owned PortSpec.name and ParamSpec.name: a composite re-exports interior fields under runtime boundary names, so ownership is the correct model, not a workaround. FieldSpec loses Copy; the only fallout is one borrow at the render site. leak_name/Box::leak deleted. Behaviour-preserving: signature contents unchanged, all 231 tests green. |

feat(aura): surface bind-bound params in the graph model + viewer signature
A node built with `.bind(slot, value)` fixes a declared param to a structural
constant: the slot correctly leaves the tunable surface (param_space / sweep axes),
but it also vanished from the RENDERED signature, because prim_record emitted only
schema.params. The cycle-0036 `blend` (a LinComb(3) with weights[2] bound to 0.5)
rendered `LinComb[weights[0], weights[1]]` — a 2-arity signature over a 3-port box,
with the fixed 0.5 invisible. The signature misrepresented the node.
bind now ANNOTATES instead of erasing. All slots are shown; the bound one renders
`name=value`, dimmed. The blend renders:
blend: LinComb[weights[0], weights[1], weights[2]=0.5]

feat(aura): surface explicit node instance name in the graph viewer
A leaf primitive built with `.named("fast")` now renders its `aura graph` viewer
box head as `fast: SMA[length]` — the instance name as a `:` declaration prefix.
An unnamed leaf keeps the bare `SMA[length]`.
Engine half: a new raw `PrimitiveBuilder::instance_name() -> Option<&str>` (the
explicit name, default not resolved) feeds a conditional leading `"name"` field
in prim_record, present only for an explicitly-named node; both golden twins
(inline model_golden + sample-model.json) re-captured. Viewer half: adaptNodes
carries `name`, the genDot leaf-emit forwards it, and cellLabel prepends the
`name: ` prefix when present (composites stay bare). `named()`'s non-empty
debug_assert is unchanged, its doc re-grounded to the now load-bearing Some/None
invariant (knob-address segment + prefix switch).
The name is a render/model-only debug symbol — dropped at lowering (C23), and the
model stays deterministic (C14). Parameter ganging (one knob, several nodes) was
considered and spun off as an explicit composite-shared-param idea (#61), not via
name collision (param_space is injective, C12/C19).

feat(aura-core): PrimitiveBuilder::bind — fix a node param as a structural constant
Add `PrimitiveBuilder::bind(slot, value)`: bind a declared param to a structural constant, removed from param_space entirely rather than pinned in the injected vector. This closes the gap #55 names — param-bearing nodes (Sma/Exposure/LinComb) had no constant path, only the no-sweep-mode SimBroker precedent. The motivating case is "SMA2-entry": the 2 is bound to the two-candle construction, so sweeping it would enumerate deformed strategies as valid family members. Approach (Option B, builder-level — the originally-planned direction): bind shrinks the builder's declared param surface (schema.params) and wraps its build closure to re-splice the captured constant at its original positional slot. The construction layer (collect_params / lower_items / param_space / compile_with_params) is byte-unchanged: both dock sites already key off builder.params(), so the shrink propagates for free. Addressing is by param name (the by-name authoring address space, C23/0032); the compilat stays wired by raw index — names never reach it. bind enforces "exactly one open param matches" itself (collect-all-then-reject, panic on zero / on duplicate), mirroring the resolve binder's posture, because a node's own schema.params is not covered by check_param_namespace_injective. Chained binds reconstruct the correct positional vector because each layer computes its slot index relative to the param list it sees (no global position table). Considered and rejected: a per-node builder_const(N) constructor (explodes combinatorially over which subset is constant, not dynamic); a ParamBinding overlay struct on Composite (would need new bookkeeping the builder-level form avoids). Verified: cargo build/clippy/test --workspace all green; new tests cover slot removal, positional reconstruction (chained + partial, via eval), the three panic paths, and the composite param_space projection; blueprint.rs construction layer confirmed byte-unchanged. Deferred (out of scope, follow-up issue): exporting a named frozen strategy as a blueprint-as-values collection — the issue's third fork, needs its own brainstorm. closes #55 |

feat(aura-core,aura-engine,aura-cli): node-instance naming retires ParamAlias
Every blueprint node now carries a name. A primitive builder gains an optional
instance name (Sma::builder().named("fast")); when omitted it defaults to the
node's type label, ASCII-lowercased verbatim ("SMA"->"sma", "SimBroker"->
"simbroker"). param_space() is now uniformly <node>.<param> at every level
including the root (sma_cross.fast.length, exposure.scale). Fan-in
distinguishability (C9) and signature_of re-key onto the node name: two same-type
siblings both defaulting to "sma" collide and IndistinguishableFanIn fires, so
one act -- naming the legs "fast"/"slow" -- fixes both the naming collision and
the fan-in check. The index-addressed ParamAlias overlay, Composite.params, the
Composite::new 5th argument, aliases_on, and check_alias_indices are removed
(Role.name and OutField.name untouched). Ledger C9 and C23 amended.
This is why the change is correct, not merely convenient: blueprints are
value-empty (C11), so the thing that would otherwise distinguish two SMAs --
their length -- is not present at construction; identity must come from a name,
not a deferred value. Closes the #56 friction surfaced by the param-space &
sweep milestone fieldtest (a freshly-authored 2-SMA cross was unbindable and
would not bootstrap without two hand-counted ParamAlias overlays).
Two plan defects were corrected during implementation and verified:
- the three new fan-in/path tests authored sma_cross at root level, which would
qualify to "fast.length" (root prefix is empty) and is not the nested case the
fan-in check inspects; nesting sma_cross under a root (a shared
sma_cross_under_root helper) restores the asserted "sma_cross.fast.length" and
IndistinguishableFanIn{node:2};
- three cycle-0030 named-binder tests bound the real harness by the old names
(sma_cross.fast / scale) and were migrated to the new path strings, surfaced by
the workspace test gate.
Verified by the orchestrator: cargo build/test --workspace green (198 tests,
0 red), clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean. model_to_json emits the type
label + factory param names (node-name-independent), so sample-model.json and the
graph_model golden are byte-identical (untouched). NodeSchema gained a Default
derive (the builder default-name test constructs an empty schema). fieldtests/
are frozen non-workspace records, not migrated.

test(aura-core): pin bare-literal Into<Scalar> kind inference
Authoring layers that lower raw literals via `impl Into<Scalar>` (the named-param-binding surface, spec 0030 / #35) rely on a bare integer literal inferring as i64 and a bare float as f64 — because i64/f64/bool are the only `From<…> for Scalar` impls, each literal class resolves to exactly one. This was true but untested: `from_widenings` uses suffixed literals (`7i64`), so a regression in the inference path would survive it. Behaviour-preserving pin of existing aura-core behaviour. Closes the one grounding gap the grounding-check flagged on spec 0030; also guards the property independently — adding a second integer `From` impl would now break loudly here rather than silently at a `.with("knob", 2)` call site. refs #35 |

feat(engine): serde foundation + amend C16 dependency policy (cycle D / iter 1)
Iteration 1 of the run-registry cycle (#33): lay the dependency + serde foundation the registry's typed read-path needs, and amend the contract that forbade it. Contract change (load-bearing — C18/C16). C16's blanket "zero-external- dependency by commitment" + "aura-ingest is the sole external-dependency firewall" framing is struck and replaced by a considered, per-case dependency policy: dependencies are admitted by deliberate review (what a crate pulls in vs. what it buys), with particular scrutiny for anything entering the frozen deploy artifact (C13); standard vetted crates (serde, rayon, ...) pass that review and are used wherever they do the job, including in the bot; hand-rolling what a vetted crate does is the anti-pattern. C16's engine/project split + three-tier node reuse are unchanged. The five source comments that asserted the struck framing (aura-engine/aura-ingest Cargo.toml + aura-ingest/report.rs docs) are rewritten to match; no live source or ledger text still asserts it. Per-case justification for serde (the policy now requires one): it gives the run-report types a typed (de)serialization path — exactly what ranking/compare over stored runs needs, and what the writer-only hand-rolled JSON (C14) could never provide; closes the typed-read-path gap (#17). Its closure is tiny, ubiquitous, heavily audited, and its output deterministic (C1-safe). serde_json is test-only this iteration (dev-dependency); no production serde_json yet. Changes: [workspace.dependencies] serde (derive) + serde_json; serde derives on Timestamp (aura-core) and RunMetrics/RunManifest/RunReport (aura-engine), with serde_json round-trip tests (window renders as a [from,to] integer array via the transparent Timestamp newtype). The hand-rolled to_json writers are untouched (still drive stdout). No aura-registry crate, no SweepPoint change — those are iterations 2 and 3. Verified: cargo test --workspace green (incl. the two new round-trip tests); clippy --workspace --all-targets -D warnings clean; no surviving assertion of the struck zero-dep framing in live source or the ledger. refs #33 |

feat(aura-cli): render the graph as a self-contained WASM-Graphviz viewer; retire ascii-dag
Iteration 2 of cycle 0026 (graph render redesign). `aura graph` no longer emits ASCII: it now prints one self-contained `.html` to stdout — the ported prototype pin-graph viewer (drill / inline-expand / styled tooltips / breadcrumb) driven by the deterministic model serializer that shipped in iteration 1, with layout and SVG done in-browser by Graphviz compiled to WebAssembly. Closes the redesign opened by spec 0026; unblocked by cycle 0027 (input ports are now named, so the viewer labels every input pin from the model's real names instead of inventing "a"/"b"). What ships: - crates/aura-cli/assets/: the ported graph-viewer.js (prototype genDot/chrome verbatim + a normalizeModel adapter mapping aura's real model tuple shape — ins = [kind, firing, name], index node keys, `comp` refs, `src_<role>` — into the viewer's native shape), plus the vendored Graphviz-WASM (@viz-js/viz@3.7.0) and svg-pan-zoom@3.6.1 blobs and a refresh-assets.sh provenance script. - crates/aura-cli/src/render.rs: render_html(&Composite) -> String, a read-only (C9) assembly — model_to_json + include_str! of the inlined assets, no eval, no build, no serde (C14). The `["graph"]` arm calls it. - Retired: the ascii-dag adapter (graph.rs), the `ascii-dag` dependency, the `--compiled`/`--macd` graph flag plumbing, render_compiled, the color/terminal plumbing, and the 12 ascii-dag-asserting tests + the now-orphaned helpers. The cli_run integration test now pins the HTML page envelope. - crates/aura-core/src/node.rs: the two last ascii-dag prose justifications re-grounded (single-line label rule kept, re-justified generically; the param-generic rule re-justified on C23, not on a renderer limitation). - docs/design/INDEX.md: the cycle-0026 C9 realization note (both iterations). Vendoring decision (spec deferred it to the plan): the WASM/JS blobs are checked in, not fetched at build time. include_str! needs them at compile time, and a build-time unpkg fetch would make the build non-hermetic/non-offline and let the shipped artifact drift with the registry — against C1 (determinism) and C8 (frozen artifacts). ~1.4 MB is the price of a hermetic, frozen render asset. Three adaptations beyond the plan, each verified: (1) render.rs imports `aura_engine::Composite` (the path model_to_json takes), not aura_core; (2) macd_blueprint is now test-only — removing the `--macd` arm left it used solely by the param-space test, so it took `#[cfg(test)]` rather than removal or an `#[allow]` suppression (the production `aura run --macd` path is intact, verified emitting JSON); (3) the `grep ascii-dag` over crates/ matches only the new contract test, which names the term deliberately to document the retirement — no stale justification prose remains. Invariants held (verified independently, not on agent report): C9 (render path read-only), C10 (viewer is a render asset, no logic/DSL), C4 (four-colour palette = the four scalar base types), C14 (no serde). The iteration-1 model byte golden is unchanged and green. cargo build --workspace: 0 errors. cargo test --workspace: 157 passed, 0 failed (incl. the two new HTML tests + the unchanged model_golden). cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean. ascii-dag absent from `cargo tree -p aura-cli`. closes #51 |

feat(aura-core): name input ports
PortSpec gains a non-load-bearing `name: String`, so an input port is named just as FieldSpec.name (output) and ParamSpec.name (param) already are — input ports were the lone unnamed member of the node signature. Identity stays positional by slot (C23); the name is render/debug only, never read by bootstrap or the run loop. PortSpec drops Copy (String is not Copy), exactly as ParamSpec already does. - Every aura-std node names its input slots: SMA/EMA "series", Sub/Add "lhs"/"rhs", Exposure "signal", SimBroker "exposure"/"price" (the slots become self-documenting), LinComb "term[i]" and Recorder "col[i]" generated in their build loops (mirroring LinComb's existing weights[i] param loop). - derive_signature carries a composite's Role.name into the derived input port (it was dropped before — the output side already carried FieldSpec.name), so the graph model is homogeneously named at both levels. - model_to_json (port_json + the composite-header inputs in scope_json) emits the name as a third tuple element: ["f64","any","exposure"]. The byte golden was re-captured (machine bytes) and its substring twins updated; the model is now fully named across inputs/outputs/params. - All 16 PortSpec construction sites threaded in one compile-gate change; test fixtures carry fixture names. C8 realization note added to the design ledger. Why name-only, no validation: the name is a pure debug symbol. Wire-by-name was rejected (it would be a C23 contract change). Bootstrap slot-wiring validation (which would close #21's same-kind swap footgun) is deferred to its own cycle — a name alone does not catch the swap; it makes the slots self-documenting and gives a future validation something to check against. Verified: cargo test --workspace 168 green; clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; cargo build --workspace clean. Read-only render path (C9), no serde (C14), scalar kinds unchanged (C4). closes #50 refs #21 refs #51 |

feat(aura): node signature lives in the blueprint; collapse Blueprint into Composite
Consolidate the node data structure so every node's signature (NodeSchema:
inputs/output/params) is declared once and exists in the blueprint pre-build,
and dissolve the special "root graph" type. Behaviour-preserving (C1).
Signature vs sizing
- NodeSchema is now the static signature only: InputSpec -> PortSpec{kind,firing},
with lookback removed. The signature is fully static per blueprint (input
kinds/firing, output fields, params); LinComb's variable arity is a builder arg,
not an injected param.
- The one param-dependent quantity, an input's buffer lookback (e.g. Sma's window =
its injected length), moves out of the signature to Node::lookbacks() -> Vec<usize>,
read only by bootstrap for sizing. Node::schema() is removed.
- LeafFactory -> PrimitiveBuilder, which carries the full NodeSchema. The built node
no longer re-declares it: closes the params-declared-twice drift (#36, the 8
per-node factory_params_match_built_node_schema lockstep tests are deleted — their
subject is now structurally impossible) and a value-empty recipe exposes its full
I/O interface pre-build (#43).
Root is just a bound composite
- struct Blueprint is deleted; its compile/bootstrap/param_space methods move onto
Composite. Role gains source: Option<ScalarKind> (None = open interior port,
Some = bound ingestion feed). A composite is runnable iff every root role is bound;
the "main graph" is no longer a category, only the fully-source-bound composite.
New error CompileError::UnboundRootRole for an open root role.
- BlueprintNode::signature() answers uniformly for both arms: Primitive returns the
builder's declared schema, Composite derives it from the interior (role kinds in,
OutField kinds out, aggregated params), pre-build, no build.
compile -> FlatGraph -> bootstrap
- compile validates structure pre-build via signature() (validate_wiring: range +
kind, returning the same variants as before, so an edge kind fault is now caught
before any build closure fires) and emits FlatGraph{nodes,signatures,sources,edges}.
- bootstrap consumes the FlatGraph: kinds/firing/output from the carried signatures,
buffer depth from node.lookbacks(). SourceSpec survives as the flat descriptor.
Renames: BlueprintNode::Leaf -> Primitive, LeafFactory -> PrimitiveBuilder.
Render (aura-cli/src/graph.rs) is migrated compile-only: it takes &Composite, maps
bound roles to the same source-entry shape, so both render goldens reproduce
byte-identical output (no re-capture needed). Render-fidelity tuning is the next cycle.
Verification (orchestrator-run, not agent-reported): cargo build --workspace green;
cargo test --workspace 150 passed / 0 failed; cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets
-D warnings clean. All pinned determinism/run-output tests pass with values unchanged;
no behavioural assertion was altered to go green. 5 new tests assert the signature is
pre-build and uniform, that compile rejects a kind mismatch without building (via a
panicking builder), UnboundRootRole, and lookbacks()/signature arity agreement.
Deferred to cycle-close audit (per plan): docs/design/INDEX.md and some aura-std
module docs still name the old Node::schema()/LeafFactory/BlueprintNode::Leaf/
Blueprint::param_space contracts; prose reconciliation is the architect's at audit.

feat(aura-cli): composite definition renders as a typed signature
Refines #41's blueprint-definition render. The [param:<name>] marker nodes #41 added bloated the ASCII MACD graph (three extra nodes + fan-in edges); this moves the interface into the title line and folds names into the leaf labels that already exist: - title is the composite's typed signature, e.g. macd(fast:i64, slow:i64, signal:i64) -> (macd, signal, histogram) (param kinds from the aliased leaf's factory params via a new ScalarKind->lowercase kind_str; output NAMES only — output kinds need a pre-build factory interface, deferred to #43) - leaf labels fold aliased param names: [EMA] -> [EMA(fast)] - unnamed interior input slots render as ordered stubs: [Sub] -> [Sub(#A,#B)] (count/order derived render-side from c.edges() + c.input_roles(), no engine schema needed; arity-1 nodes get no stub) - outputs de-prefixed: [out:macd] -> [macd]; the [param:*] marker nodes are gone - two stale doc comments corrected: render_definition's [param:] prose and node.rs LeafFactory::label (the renderer went flat in 0017, so the cited ascii-dag cluster-garble rationale no longer applies — wide labels are safe; the factory label stays bare because alias names are composite-level) Render-only: no engine/ParamAlias/param_space change. compiled_view_golden byte-identical (C23 guard — verified untouched in the diff); aura run --macd deterministic and unchanged (total_pips 0.1637945563898923, 3 sign flips). The title format change repinned five .matches("name:")->.matches("name(") definition-count asserts (sma_cross/outer/inner/dup/macd); the stub separator is "," (no space) to match the [Sub(#A,#B)] surface. Verification (orchestrator-run): cargo build/test/clippy --workspace -D warnings all green; the redesigned MACD render confirmed by eye. refs #41 #43 |

feat(aura-core,aura-std,aura-engine,aura-cli): inject a param-set vector at bootstrap (#31)
Cycle B of milestone "The World — parameter-space & sweep". A blueprint is now value-empty: a leaf holds a param-generic recipe, not a built node, and a positional Scalar vector is bound slot-by-slot at bootstrap — so one blueprint bootstraps into many distinct instances under different vectors, with no cdylib rebuild (C12/C19). This is the binding primitive a sweep (#32) drives. Ratified design (brainstorm): value-empty reconstruct-through-new() over mutate-in-place and over a default-bearing variant. The value lives only in the injected vector (no baked default), keeping the blueprint a pure param-generic recipe (C19); every injected value flows through the node's own constructor (the single sizing/validation gate). - aura-core: LeafFactory { name, params, build } — the recipe (params -> sized node through `new`); Scalar::as_i64/as_f64 value accessors. Node trait unchanged. - aura-std: each of the 7 nodes exposes factory() (SMA length:I64, Exposure scale:F64, LinComb arity x weights[i]:F64; Sub/Add/SimBroker/Recorder paramless, capturing their non-param construction args — pip_size, the Recorder channel). - aura-engine: BlueprintNode::Leaf(LeafFactory), From<LeafFactory>; param_space() reads factory.params() pre-build; compile_with_params/bootstrap_with_params build each leaf from its kind-checked slice while lowering (build-then-wire), arity checked up front via param_space().len(); CompileError::{ParamKindMismatch, ParamArity}. compile/inline/edge-rewrite are structurally unchanged, so the compilat stays bit-identical for a given point (the bit-identity and both param_space mirror tests stay green). The vestigial pre-build Composite::schema / BlueprintNode::schema (no live caller — interface resolution is structural on the built flat nodes) are removed. - aura-cli: the blueprint view labels leaves by bare type via LeafFactory::label() (`[SMA]`) — the ascii-dag renderer cannot render wide cluster-sibling labels (see spec); the compiled view still labels valued (`SMA(2)`). The sample supplies its point as a vector; the mis-wiring swap moved to the compiled view. The #34 dual-traversal drift hazard is subsumed: compile_with_params consumes the vector in the same recipe walk param_space() reports, so the two share one traversal. Verified: cargo build/test --workspace green (127 tests, incl. bit-identity, both mirror tests, and 4 new injection tests — different-vector-different-run, kind mismatch, arity, determinism); clippy --workspace --all-targets -D warnings clean; `aura graph` blueprint view renders cleanly. feat(aura-core,aura-std,aura-engine): declare node tunable params (#30)
Cycle A of milestone 'The World — parameter-space & sweep'. A node now declares its tunable parameters in its C8 schema, and a blueprint aggregates them into one flat, inspectable param-space — the root that unlocks the C12 orchestration axes (#31 bind, #32 sweep), filling the gap C8/C23 name 'deliberately not in the schema yet'. - aura-core: ParamSpec { name: String, kind: ScalarKind } as a third schema- declaration type; NodeSchema gains a third field 'params'. name is String (not &'static like FieldSpec) because a vector knob carries a runtime index and aggregation prefixes the composite path. - aura-std: Sma declares [length:I64], Exposure [scale:F64], LinComb expands to N flat [weights[i]:F64] (N = its input arity, topology-fixed per C19); Sub/Add/ SimBroker/Recorder declare none (pip_size is metadata, C10/C15; Recorder is wiring). - aura-engine: Blueprint::param_space() walks the graph-as-data depth-first in lower_items order, path-qualifying via the already-public Composite::name() — a read-only projection (C9). compile/inline_composite/lower_items are untouched, so the compilat stays bit-identical (composite_sma_cross_runs_bit_identical_to_hand_wired and the golden render tests stay green). Design: param identity is positional (slot after the deterministic inline order, C23 'by index not name'); the path-qualified name is a non-load-bearing debug symbol — same-type siblings in one composite share a name, uniqueness is at the slot. Flat over a structured arity-bearing ParamSpec because flattening is unavoidable (a sweep enumerates a flat point-space) and structure-in-the-runtime is the nested-composite reading C23 rejects (see spec 0015 for the full rationale). Scope is declaration + aggregation + inspection only; binding (#31), sweep enumeration (#32), search-range, validity-constraint, and default-range/slider are deferred. An E2E test pins the load-bearing C23/#31 invariant: param_space() slot order mirrors compile()'s flat-node param order, kind-by-slot, on the SMA-cross harness. fieldtests/ (excluded crates) left as frozen snapshots. Verified: cargo build/test --workspace green (64 tests), clippy --all-targets -D warnings clean; compile/inline diff empty. closes #30 |

feat(aura-cli): aura graph renders a wired graph as an ASCII DAG (#13)
Make a wired graph introspectable so a mis-wiring becomes visible. Two
selectable views, both authored from one built-in sample blueprint:
aura graph clustered blueprint view — composites drawn as named
ascii-dag cluster boxes (pre-inline, C9)
aura graph --compiled flat compilat view — composite boundaries dissolved
(C23); the graph the run loop actually runs
The payoff is intrinsic, param-carrying node labels: two SMAs read SMA(2) /
SMA(4), so a swapped fast/slow input reads back differently. This is realized
by a `label()` default method on the core Node trait — a non-load-bearing
render symbol the run loop never reads (wiring is by index), the symbol C23
already reserves citing #13. Recorded as a C8 refinement in the ledger.
Rejected the alternatives in brainstorm: a separate Describe trait (forces a
combined trait-object dance for a label the ledger calls non-load-bearing) and
extrinsic parallel labels (decoupled from the node, so an author can label the
slow SMA "fast" and mask the very bug the render exists to surface).
Mechanism:
- aura-core: Node::label() default method (additive, object-safe, single-line).
- aura-std: per-node overrides — SMA(n)/Exposure(s)/SimBroker(p) carry params;
Sub/Add/LinComb/Recorder are bare (their identity is not a mis-wiring axis).
- aura-engine: Composite gains an authored `name` (cluster title; dissolves at
inline) + read-only graph-as-data accessors on Blueprint/Composite. No
external dependency — the engine stays dependency-pure (C16); ascii-dag lives
only in aura-cli. The label-free index-wired compilat (C23) is unchanged.
- aura-cli: ascii-dag v0.9.1 + a graph.rs adapter (Vertical mode; labels
materialized into an owned Vec<String> that outlives the borrow-based Graph).
`aura run` is untouched (the sample duplication is dedup idea #14).
Tests: a concern-defining test (swapped sample renders != correct), structure
pins (cluster present in blueprint view, absent in compiled view), per-node
label disambiguation, and two frozen byte-goldens of the deterministic render.
The cycle-0012 bit-identical and run-sample non-regression tests stay green.
Verified by the orchestrator (not the agent report): cargo build --workspace
clean; cargo test --workspace all green; cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets
-D warnings clean; both views run live and render as expected.

(docs/specs/fieldtest-0006-substrate.md): the public surface never stated that
an empty `output` is THE pure-consumer (sink) declaration, nor defined what a
`Some` return paired with an empty output means.
The behaviour was already principled and defended in the engine — this only
documents it (no code change):
- `output: vec![]` is the pure-consumer declaration; there is no separate
Sink type/trait/marker.
- `eval` must return a row whose width equals `schema.output.len()`, so a pure
consumer returns `None` or a zero-width `Some(&[])`; the run loop
debug-asserts the width (harness.rs).
- field-wise wiring resolves `Edge::from_field` against the producer's output
at bootstrap, so no edge can bind a field of a zero-output node (it fails
with `BadIndex`) — a sink is structurally unwireable as an in-graph
producer; its only output is the out-of-graph side effect.
Ledger C8 gains an "Encoding & return contract" clause; aura-core node.rs
rustdoc (module, NodeSchema, Node trait) updated from the pre-0006 "1..K,
producer or transformer" wording to the three-role (producer/consumer/both)
contract.

feat: recording is a node role, not a type (multi-sink substrate)
Replace the engine's single observe: usize recording affordance with recording-by-node, so one run records many streams. A recording node reads its typed input windows + ctx.now() in eval and pushes the record to a destination it holds as a field (a channel, a chart handle) — an out-of-graph side effect. There is no Sink type, trait, or engine flag: a pure-consumer node returns None, and a node may record AND return a forwarded output in the same eval (the C8 "both" case). In-graph routing stays engine-owned data (the edge table); the escape out of the graph is the node's own side effect, and that boundary is the determinism / graph-as-data boundary. Engine surface shrinks: Ctx gains now: Timestamp + now() (C2-causal, the present cycle's timestamp); Harness loses the observe field, its observe >= n bootstrap check, and the per-cycle observed-row collection; bootstrap drops its 4th param; run returns (). Recorded streams are now sparse and timestamped (a record per fired cycle) instead of the dense Vec<Option<row>>. The Ctx::new signature change touched 9 call sites across three crates (not the 3 the spec estimated) — aura-std's node tests and the engine run loop were threaded too. The engine test suite migrated to a test-local Recorder fixture whose read-back is an mpsc channel, never Rc/RefCell, keeping aura-engine/src purity-clean (C7). Eight new proof tests cover the multi-sink headline, producer-and-sink, mixed-kind recording, all-fields tap, both recorder firing modes, determinism, and recorder-edge kind rejection. C8/C22 gain cycle-0006 realization notes. Gates: workspace test 45 green (core 20, std 3, engine 22), clippy -D warnings clean, purity grep clean (only a comment names Rc/RefCell). closes #2 |

feat: node output is a record (composite stream), not a single scalar
Cycle 0005 (BLOCKER #1): a node's output generalizes from one scalar to a record of K >= 1 named base-scalar columns, with a scalar being the degenerate K = 1 case. A node keeps exactly one output port; its payload is now an ordered bundle of base columns (a composite stream, C7). This unblocks every multi-column producer the engine needs next -- OHLCV bars and, later, the C10 position-event table -- none of which could exist while a node emitted at most one column. Revises C8, sharpens C7 in the design ledger. Contract (aura-core): - `NodeSchema.output: ScalarKind` -> `Vec<FieldSpec>` (FieldSpec = { name: &'static str, kind }; the field position is what an Edge binds, the name is metadata for later sinks/playground, C18). - `Node::eval -> Option<Scalar>` -> `-> Option<&[Scalar]>`: a node fills a buffer it owns (sized once at construction) and returns a borrowed K-field row; `None` still means filter/not-warmed. This is the C7-faithful representation chosen with the user: zero per-cycle heap allocation on the forward path (rejected: Option<Vec<Scalar>> allocates per fire; an inline fixed [Scalar; N] bakes a width cap; engine-owned output columns invert the eval model). Scalar output is the degenerate 1-field record -- no separate scalar path. Field-wise binding (aura-engine): - `Edge` gains `from_field: usize` -- which producer column this edge forwards. Consuming a whole record is N edges; there is no "bind whole record" mechanism. - bootstrap kind-checks per field (`from.output.get(from_field)` -> BadIndex if out of range; `field.kind != slot.kind` -> KindMismatch). - the run loop copies a producer's returned row into one reused scratch buffer (resolving the borrow; no per-cycle alloc once warm) and scatters scratch[from_field] into each out-edge slot. `NodeBox.out_len` (set at bootstrap) backs a debug_assert on the returned row width. `run` returns `Vec<Option<Vec<Scalar>>>` (the observed node's full row per cycle -- a materialization-surface alloc, not the inter-node hot path). - the K fields of one record are co-fresh by construction (one eval, one timestamp), so C6 is untouched. aura-std: Sma/Sub migrate to the 1-field degenerate case (hold a [Scalar; 1] buffer; behaviour unchanged). Sub drops #[derive(Default)] (Scalar has no Default) for a manual Default. Proof (aura-engine tests, +5): an Ohlcv 5-field bundler fed by five timestamp-aligned barrier sources emits one complete bar per timestamp (ohlcv_bundles_five_field_record); a downstream Sub binds high(1)-low(2) field-wise, observed end-to-end + a determinism re-run (edge_binds_single_field_high_minus_low); a second consumer binds close(3)-open(0) on the same record (distinct_edges_read_distinct_fields); must-fail: bootstrap_rejects_from_field_out_of_range (BadIndex), bootstrap_rejects_per_field_kind_mismatch (a TwoField [f64,i64] producer, the i64 field into an f64 slot). All prior 0003/0004 tests adapted to from_field + the Vec return, expected vectors unchanged (scalar = 1-field record). Gates re-run by the orchestrator (not just the agent): cargo build/test --workspace --all-targets (36: aura-core 19 + aura-std 3 + aura-engine 14, 0 failed) / clippy --workspace --all-targets -D warnings clean; surface-purity grep (no dyn-Any / Rc / RefCell) clean. Ledger C8/C7 edits verified (Option<&[Scalar]> present, "one series per node" gone, cycle-0005 realization note added). The glossary composite/node record-reality pass is the audit-time follow-up. closes #1 refs walking-skeleton Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(engine): firing policies A/B + the k-way ingestion merge
Cycle 0004: the reactive-semantics layer. The engine now merges multiple
timestamped sources into one chronological cycle stream (C3) and gates each
node's re-evaluation by a per-input firing policy (C5/C6) — both rails shipping
together, as the user required ("must sit right from the start").
- `Firing` (aura-core) — a per-input enum on `InputSpec`, where C8 places firing:
`Any` (mode A, fire-on-any-fresh + hold / as-of join) and `Barrier(u8)` (mode B,
all-fresh barrier / synchronizing join). Default-free; Sma/Sub declare
`Firing::Any`, so under a single source ticking every cycle their behavior is
unchanged (backward compatible — the 0003 fan-out/join DAG still emits
[None,None,None,2,2,2]).
- `SourceSpec` + the k-way merge (aura-engine) — `run` takes one
`(Timestamp, Scalar)` stream per source and merges them by (timestamp, source
index) (C4 ties by declaration order). One record = one cycle. This is the
permanent ingestion core; the Source trait + data-server IO (C3/C11) are a
later orthogonal cycle (the user scoped this cycle to the reactive semantics).
- Two read clocks, both load-bearing (resolves the 0003 audit's "0004 owns
cycle_id" with no write-only field): each push stamps the input slot with
`fresh_at` (the cycle_id — freshness epoch, C5: fresh iff fresh_at == cycle_id)
and `last_ts` (the data timestamp — barrier token, C6: a barrier group is
complete iff all members carry last_ts == T). The `fires()` predicate ORs the
groups; the ">=1 member fresh this cycle" clause is the once-per-timestamp
guard. Sample-and-hold falls out of the push model: a non-firing node pushes
nothing, so consumers keep seeing the held value via window[0].
Key design call, studied against RustAst (src/ast/rtl/streams/): the barrier
token is the data *timestamp*, not cycle_id. RustAst's
last_cycle_per_input.all(== cycle_id) synchronizes one source's fan-out but
cannot synchronize independent sources — under C4 four same-timestamp sources
are four different cycle_ids, so the cycle_id barrier never fires for C6's own
OHLC example. Substituting timestamp is the minimal faithful generalization
(fires both the diamond rejoin and the multi-source bar). Mode A and the k-way
merge are both new (RustAst had neither); RustAst's total_count push counter is
aura's already-built Column::run_count.
Both rails proven on identical sources, firing-only difference:
- mode A (AsOfSum): [None,None,120,130,140,240] — holds the slow input;
- mode B (BarrierSum): [None,None,120,None,None,240] — waits for timestamp
coincidence;
- mixed A+B (MixedSum): the OR-combine fires both when the barrier pair completes
(holding the as-of input) and when the as-of input ticks (holding the pair).
Plus determinism (C1, bit-identical re-run of each rail) and the three bootstrap
rejections re-expressed on SourceSpec.
Gates green (re-run by the orchestrator, not just the agent): cargo build/test
(30: aura-core 19 + aura-std 3 + aura-engine 8) / clippy --workspace
--all-targets -D warnings clean; surface-purity grep (no dyn-Any / Rc / RefCell)
clean — the harness doc phrases RustAst's model without the literal tokens to
avoid self-match.

feat(core): the node contract — Node, schema/eval, Ctx, and a worked SMA
Cycle 0002, the second walking-skeleton slice on top of the 0001 substrate:
the interface every node forever implements (C8), proven end-to-end by a real
node with no engine present.
- `Node` (aura-core) — `schema() -> NodeSchema` declares inputs (kind +
lookback) and the single output kind; `eval(&mut self, Ctx) -> Option<Scalar>`
computes one cycle's output (`None` = filter / not-yet-warmed-up). `&mut self`
so a node may keep its own derived state.
- `Ctx<'a>` (aura-core) — a `Copy` borrow-wrapper handing `eval` zero-copy,
financial-indexed `Window`s per input (`ctx.f64_in(i)[k]`, index 0 = newest).
A kind mismatch panics ("engine bug") — wiring guarantees the kind, so a
mismatch can only mean the wiring layer is broken; this keeps node-author code
clean (`w[k]`, not `w?[k]`).
- `AnyColumn::as_f64/as_i64/as_bool/as_ts` (aura-core) — the read-side mirror of
the existing `as_*_mut`, the mechanism `Ctx` uses to get a typed window from a
type-erased edge. Closes the read-side gap the cycle-0001 audit recorded.
- `Sma` (aura-std) — the skeleton's first real block: a producer node computing
the moving mean of one f64 input, emitting `None` until warmed up. Authored in
a downstream crate (proving aura-core's contract is usable across the crate
boundary) and driven by a hand-written test that mimics exactly what the sim
loop will later generalize: push fresh input, eval, collect.
Deliberately deferred (spec 0002 "Out of scope", recorded as decisions): the
firing policies (C6 — InputSpec carries no firing field yet), the sim loop (C4)
and freshness gating (C5), schema-level tunable params (C12/C19), and the
no-output sink refinement (C8 consumer side).
Gates green: cargo build/test (20: 18 aura-core + 2 aura-std)/clippy -D warnings
all clean; surface-purity grep (no dyn-Any / Rc / RefCell) clean.

feat(core): the streaming substrate — scalars, columns, type-erased edges
Cycle 0001 of the walking-skeleton milestone: the aura-core data substrate
everything streams through.
- scalar.rs: the closed four-type set — Scalar (Copy POD carrier), ScalarKind
(the kind tag), Timestamp (i64 epoch-ns newtype). No boxed Value, no dyn Any,
no heap (C7).
- column.rs: Column<T>, a fixed-capacity bounded-lookback ring pre-sized at
construction (no hot-loop realloc, C8), financial-indexed (index 0 = newest),
carrying a monotonic run_count freshness primitive (C5). Window<'_,T> is its
zero-copy read view with newest-at-0 Index. No RefCell/Rc — a sim is
single-threaded (C1), so push is &mut and read is &.
- any.rs: AnyColumn, the type-erased edge over the four Column kinds. push()
kind-checks at the edge (wiring time) and rejects a wrong-kind value with
KindMismatch, leaving the column untouched; the hot path bypasses the check
via the monomorphic as_*_mut accessors (C7).
- error.rs: KindMismatch { expected, got }, the guard error.
Sharpens the RustAst rtl/ reference (VecDeque + RefCell + boxed Value) into a
fixed ring of Copy scalars with direct dispatch. Node trait, Ctx, firing
policies, and the sim loop are deferred to subsequent cycles.
Verified independently: cargo build --workspace (0 warnings), cargo test
--workspace (14 aura-core tests green incl. ring-wrap, run_count monotonicity,
zero-copy window, and the wrong_kind_push_is_rejected guard), cargo clippy
--workspace --all-targets -D warnings (clean), and a surface-purity grep
confirming no RefCell/Rc/dyn Any on the substrate.

docs: C19/C20 — bootstrap + strategy/harness; a project is a Rust program
Anchor the implementation-design branch: C19 (construction is a bootstrap phase — param-generic blueprint -> frozen instance; recursive up to the harness; params size/configure but never change topology). C20 (strategy = reusable context-free composite blueprint with role inputs + position-event output; harness = the root sim graph and C1's disjoint unit, with structural axes = experiment matrix vs tuning params = sweep; both strategy AND experiment authored in Rust via builder APIs, not a config DSL). Extend C8 (schema declares tunable params+ranges), C16 (a project is a Rust crate: cdylib of node/strategy/experiment blueprints + static Aura.toml; hosted by aura during research, frozen to a binary for deploy), C17 (all logic is Rust — nodes/strategies/experiments; Aura.toml = static context only), C12 (frozen topology = a harness instance; structural matrix is the outer axis).
