The cycle's design principle enters the ledger: every closed-vocabulary
entry the binary exposes carries a one-line meaning behind one shared
deterministic shape gate (doc_gate) at three seams -- compile/unit for
engine-shipped entries, load for native node crates, register for the
content-addressed store (documents: an additive-optional gated
description). Forbids the engine evaluating description text (C17 /
invariant 10), any influence on execution/identity/determinism (C1),
retroactive invalidation of registered artifacts, and machine-invented
meaning lines. Why: the audience is headless LLM agents (#319); field
evidence #314 showed schema knowledge being recovered by CAS forensics
from the release binary -- the removed failure class.
All spec acceptance criteria are now met across the four iterations of
this cycle (core carrier + std texts; domain threading; load seam;
register seam + op-script doc slot + document description).

Tasks 7-8 of the bench-harness plan plus the orchestrator's sizing pass —
this completes the phase-1 harness (closes#251).
Driver: run [--surface|--quick|--reps|--out] / pin over five surfaces,
report-only comparison (drift NOTICE at >=10%, never a failure), fingerprint
mismatch exits 1 with a baseline-vs-measured block, infra errors exit 2,
debug builds refuse to measure. The Bench project-facts line and the crate
README (discipline: quiet box, warmup+median, deliberate re-pins) land with
it.
Workload sizing, measured then corrected: the release engine outran the
plan's guesses by ~100x, leaving sub-second child walls where spawn jitter
reaches the 10% threshold and flaps the report. Full-size workloads now land
in whole seconds — engine 10M bars (~0.7s), ingest 24 months x 20 fresh
drains (~0.4s), campaigns on a 24-month archive with a ~22-month window and
a 5x5 member grid (sweep ~1.4s, heavy ~5.5s), fixed-cost as in-rep medians
over spawn batches (20x help, 10x run). Quick mode keeps the small
E2E-fixture shape.
The campaign fingerprint folds all three realization layers — sweep winner,
gate survivor ordinals, bootstrap trade counts (pooled or per-survivor sum)
— so a wrong-result regression in any stage fails the bench, not just a
wrong sweep winner. Baselines pinned on this host (commit-stamped), verified
by a follow-up run: five fingerprints OK at <=2% drift under load.
Verification: cargo test --workspace 1379 green (bench tests all quick-mode;
the release-binary E2Es are #[ignore]d behind -- --ignored per the
suite-wallclock discipline), clippy -D warnings clean, doc build clean.
- CLAUDE.md invariant 9 amended end to end: a project is a directory
anchored by a static Aura.toml, data-only by default; native node
logic lives in attached node crates (the nodes/ antecedent removed —
user decision 2026-07-12, re-opened by the role model's diagnosis).
- docs/project-layout.md reworked to the two tiers (data-only default
tree + sibling node crate, workspace note under the crate half); the
day-in-the-life walkthrough now attaches the project's node crate
once and wires the namespace the shown command actually produces.
- docs/authoring-guide.md: data-only quickstart (closed run target,
open sweep target) + `aura nodes new` as the native entry; section
cross-reference updated.
- docs/glossary.md: new "data-only project" and "node crate" entries;
Aura.toml and manifest entries carry the tier split.
- docs/design/INDEX.md: realization note (wiring-only tier, #241) in
the project-environment section.
- rustdoc: `[nodes]` intra-doc-link escapes in project.rs/main.rs.
Full gates green: workspace suite (all binaries), clippy -D warnings,
doc build without new warnings.

The spec/plan lifecycle is a fixed plugin convention (skills/docs/conventions.md, sections File layout + Lifecycle). Restating it here is a drift vector: it had already gone stale (said git-tracked while the plugin moved to git-ignored on Jul 2). Remove the restated paragraph and enforce the git-ignored model with a project-local docs/.gitignore.
Second half of the style pin. assets/aura.css now carries (a) the full
:root token palette (Catppuccin-Mocha-derived; --bg deliberately darker
than Mocha base; new --border3 #585b70 completes the border ladder at an
identical computed value), (b) the shell rules migrated color-literal to
var() with identical computed values (font stacks stay literal — the
--mono token's longer fallback chain would change the computed value),
and (c) an opt-in, class-scoped component library distilled from the
milestone demo page (.aura-doc register, .wrap, .badge, .stats, .cards,
.term, .callout, table.res, .pipe) — unused by the runtime pages, which
render pixel-identically. CHART_CSS migrates to the same tokens (it
lands in the same document after the shell <style>, so :root resolves).
CLAUDE.md gains the binding '## HTML surfaces' rule: every HTML surface
embeds this asset; extend, never fork.
Gates: suite 1043/0, clippy -D warnings clean, doc build 0 warnings;
regenerated chart page resolves all 17 used var() names against its
:root. Independent CSS audit passed (two cosmetic notes: --bg3/--orange
currently unused; the pre-existing html,body height:100% also reaches
future .aura-doc pages).

C25 (new): the nine authoring roles cut by artifact + surface + iteration
cost, the recognizability test, the 6a/6b split on invariant 12's tier
boundary with the id machinery as interface, the text-first/headless-first
invariant (visual surfaces = stateless projections, viewers over editors),
and the Blockly litmus test as every vocabulary's acceptance criterion.
C20: the 'plain Rust loops, not a config schema' clause and the mini-DSL
forbid are scoped — they forbid an open logic-bearing language, not the
closed-vocabulary campaign document that now carries experiment intent
under the P1 construct tier; generators may stay Rust, what they yield is
data.
C22: stateless-projection refinement generalized to all artifact classes;
the shipped face recorded as the web-from-disk front. Glossary playground
entry aligned (the egui-native wording was stale against the 2026-06
revision).
CLAUDE.md invariant 10: clarified that closed-vocabulary data artifacts
(op-scripts, blueprints, process/campaign documents) are not the forbidden
DSL — RustAst failed as an open logic-bearing language; new logic
escalates to a Rust block, never a freetext hole.
All content ratified on #188 (body + addenda + resolution comments); this
commit is production of the durable record, no new design.

The stage1 ordinal has been dead vocabulary since the C10 reframe dropped
the two-stage research model: a 1 structurally implies a 2 that no longer
exists. The family is renamed by its live discriminator - the R yardstick -
with members named by their signal, uniform with their signal-named
siblings (sma, macd, momentum):
- selectors: stage1-r -> r-sma, stage1-breakout -> r-breakout,
stage1-meanrev -> r-meanrev (old tokens are usage errors, exit 2 - no
silent alias)
- identifiers: Strategy::RSma/RBreakout/RMeanRev, HarnessKind::RSma,
r_sma_*/r_breakout_*/r_meanrev_*, wrap_r, run_signal_r, RGrid, R_SMA_*
- persisted identity: the sma_signal composite (param prefix
sma_signal.fast.length / .slow.length; fixtures regenerated; content-ids
shift - no test pins a literal hash, the registry parses no record names)
- e2e test files git-mv'd to r_sma_e2e / r_breakout_e2e / r_meanrev_e2e
- dead Stage-1/Stage-2 prose reworded to post-C10 vocabulary across
rustdoc, Cargo.tomls, ledger live lines, and the glossary (historical
entries stay; fieldtests corpus untouched)
- CLAUDE.md invariant 7 rewritten to record the ratified C10 reframe
faithfully (the token-swap alone would have laundered the retired
gated-currency/realistic-broker design into unmarked live prose); the

Verification: cargo build/test --workspace green (51 targets), clippy
-D warnings clean, doc build clean, acceptance grep gate leaves exactly
the one resampling-stage false positive (harness.rs), smoke: --harness
r-sma runs, --harness stage1-r exits 2 with the new usage line.
Decision log: forks and rationale recorded on the issue (reconciliation
+ implementation-phase comments).

Adopt the R-reframe ratified in #117: the strategy's native unit is risk
(R), not pips/dollars, and its primary output is a directional bias.
- exposure -> bias: the primary output is an UNSIZED direction + conviction
`f64 in [-1,+1]`; sizing and the protective stop leave the strategy.
- Signal quality is measured in R (Stage 1): an R-evaluator integrates the
per-trade R-outcomes of a flat-1R RiskExecutor into R-expectancy. R is
defined by the stop, account-/instrument-agnostic; pips retired as the unit.
Flat-1R needs no equity, so Stage 1 is feed-forward (no cycle).
- Risk-based execution is a decoupled layer: a RiskExecutor composite
(stop-rule -> Sizer -> Veto -> position-management) per symbol, nested in a
Broker/Account composite; account mode (netting/hedging) = composition
constraint. "Sizer" is not "risk-manager" (that names the Veto layer).
- Currency P&L is Stage 2 (fixed-fractional, compounding). The only feedback
(equity -> Sizer) is cut by a z^-1 register on the fill edge (mark-to-market
stays a same-cycle price read), encapsulated in the executor; flat-1R vs
compounding is a structural axis (the explicit register is mandatory because
C23 reorders the flat graph).
- Position-event table stays the decoupled Stage-2 audit layer = first
difference of the book (deal = target - book - in_flight); the flawed 0064
exposure-integral derive is abandoned.
Touches: ledger C10 + CLAUDE.md domain invariant #7 + glossary (adds bias, R,
R-evaluator, RiskExecutor, Sizer, veto, Stage 1/2; revises broker, exposure
stream, position table, sim-optimal broker, strategy, ...). Also fixes
cross-file drift surfaced by adversarial review (C20 guarantee + front-matter
provenance still claimed "exposure stream"; cross-refs corrected to
C9/C19/C20/C23). Industry-grounded against LEAN / nautilus_trader / backtrader

The autonomous orchestrator may now git reset --hard its OWN unpushed commits made
this run (above the session anchor) when a line of work dead-ends; pushed and
user-ratified history stays strictly forward-only (git revert, never reset). This
codifies the /boss rollback sandbox the skill assumed but the project rule forbade,
resolving the conflict the auto-mode classifier surfaced. User-authorized.
Drop the gitignore entries for both dirs; align the CLAUDE.md note from "git-ignored, local-only" to "git-tracked — committed while the cycle is live, removed (git rm) at cycle close". The durable record stays the ledger + git history; specs/plans are transient in the repo, present only for their own cycle.
Per-cycle specs/plans are step-scoped: every file maps to already-shipped
code, their snippets drift hard against current APIs (InputSpec->PortSpec,
Sim->Harness, schema() removed, C16 zero-dep reversed, ascii-dag retired),
and a stale spec read as an API reference misleads agents into non-compiling
code. No durable knowledge lost — rationale lives in the ledger + code
rustdoc, history in git + the tracker.

- delete all 117 existing specs/plans (recoverable via git history)
- CLAUDE.md: specs/plans are local-only ephemeral artifacts
spec auto-sign is now fixed /boss behaviour in the skills plugin (no longer a per-project toggle), so the explicit 'enabled' entry is redundant. No behaviour change — auto-sign was already on for this project.
"Compilat" (German "Kompilat") was a coined noun for the product of the
bootstrap compilation — neither English nor a natural fit. The runtime
artifact already has a code identifier for exactly this thing: the
`FlatGraph` struct (harness.rs). Replace the coinage with that identifier:
- prose mentions -> "flat graph" (mirrors the type, reads plainly)
- definitional anchors -> `FlatGraph` (C11, C23, the running-graph line)
- `render_compilat` -> `render_flat_graph` (historical render symbol;
keeps the `render_blueprint` / `render_flat_graph`
source-vs-product pairing)
- `intra-compilat` -> `intra-graph`
- `from_compilat` (test) -> `from_flat`
"compilation" / "re-compilation" / "bootstrap-as-compilation" (the process,
ordinary English) are deliberately left untouched. Behaviour-preserving:
only comments, design ledger, specs/plans, one test-local variable and its
assert messages change. Full workspace test suite green; clippy clean.
The skills plugin dropped dev-cycle-profile.yml. Migrate this project's facts into CLAUDE.md under '## Skills plugin: project facts' and remove the profile file.
Settle the Construction-layer milestone's design fork before any spec is written:
a composite is a blueprint fragment compiled away by inlining, not a runtime
sub-engine Node.
- C23 (new): the bootstrap is a compilation -- a param-generic, named blueprint
is lowered to a flat, type-erased compilat wired by raw index; composites
inline (C9). The compilat is the target of behaviour-preserving optimisation
(C1 is the correctness invariant) on two levels: intra-compilat (CSE/DCE) and
across the sweep family (loop-invariant prefix hoisting -- the sweep-invariant
sub-graph computed once and shared via C11/C12). Passes are deferred follow-on;
this milestone builds the representation only.
- C9 refined: "a composite is itself a Node" is an authoring-level identity; the
nested Box<dyn Node> sub-engine reading is explicitly rejected (it keeps the
interior opaque to the cross-graph optimiser and adds a runtime sub-loop the
flat model does not need).
- C19 refined: the blueprint->instance binding is a compilation; "no recompile"
means no Rust/cdylib rebuild -- re-deriving an instance per param-set is a
cheap graph re-compilation, not a code recompile.
- Names are non-load-bearing debug symbols (as FieldSpec.name already is); the
wiring resolves by raw index, names survive only for tracing/rendering.
- CLAUDE.md domain-invariant 11 pulled coherent with the compilat reading.

The DAG expresses exactly one state at time t and a node emits at most one record
per eval (C8), so a *sequence* of position events — where one decision instant
(a stop-and-reverse) needs a close AND an open at the same event_ts — cannot be
the DAG's per-cycle output without violating C8. The state the DAG can express
faithfully is the desired exposure (one value per cycle); the buy/sell/close
events are its first difference, a derived consequence.
C10 is reframed accordingly: the strategy's primary, backtestable output is an
intent/exposure stream (one signed, bounded f64 in [-1,+1] per cycle). Signal
quality is measured by the sim-optimal broker integrating exposure*return into a
synthetic pip-equity curve. The broker-independent position-event table survives
as a decoupled, derivable, downstream position-management layer (computed table,
not a per-eval output) feeding realistic broker nodes for viability/deploy — no
longer the DAG output nor the signal-quality measure.
Touches the ledger contract (INDEX.md C10 + provenance/milestone/C20 ancillary),
the always-loaded summary (CLAUDE.md invariant #7), the glossary (broker, equity
stream, position table, realistic broker, signal, sim-optimal broker, strategy
reframed + new exposure-stream entry), and the north-star layout doc. Sealed

Correct the broker mechanism: a broker is an ordinary downstream consumer node (C8/C9), not an external plugin/subsystem. It consumes the position-event stream + price streams and emits an equity stream; several brokers (e.g. sim-optimal pip + realistic currency) can be attached to the same position table at once, yielding directly comparable equity curves. Updates C10, CLAUDE.md invariant 7, aura-engine/aura-std crate docs, and the day-in-the-life doc.

Supersede 'broker is part of the strategy'. A strategy outputs a time-ordered table of position events (event_ts, action[buy/sell/close], position_id, instrument_id, volume; open time = opening event's event_ts, so no open_ts; unsigned volume, direction in action). Brokers become downstream swappable plugins: a deterministic frictionless sim-optimal broker yields synthetic pip-equity for neutral comparison/optimization; realistic broker plugins add currency friction/constraints for viability/deploy.
